What is Pocket Full of Listings

Q: What is Pocket Full of Listings?

A: Pocket Full of Listings MLS is a program that runs on your Palm compatible PDA. You can use Pocket Full of Listings MLS to keep a subset of the MLS listings on your PDA. You can perform numerous different types of listing searches based on Area, Street Name, Price, School District, Status, and MLS Number. It displays a broad subset of the fields your MLS system provides. Pocket Full of Listings MLS also stores Agent and Office roster information. You can also search these rosters. You provide Pocket Full of Listings Desktop with search criteria and a convenient download time, and it does the rest. The Pocket Full of Listings Desktop program downloads listings from your MLS directly to your computer. When it finishes downloading listings, HotSync your Palm compatible PDA to get the latest listing information in the palm of the your hand.

Q: What is the difference between Pocket Full of Listings MLS and Pocket Full of Listings Desktop?

A: Pocket Full of Listings MLS or PFoL MLS is a program that runs on your Palm compatible PDA. Pocket Full of Listings Desktop is a program that runs on your computer.

Most often people refer to both programs collectively as Pocket Full of Listings.

The Pocket Full of Listings installation program installs both the MLS and Desktop portions of the software.

Q: Can I install Pocket Full of Listings on more than one computer?

A: You can install Pocket Full of Listings on more than one computer. However, you can only use Pocket Full of Listings on one Palm compatible device. In addition, unless you have two HotSync cradles, there is no real benefit to installing Pocket Full of Listings on more than one computer.

Installation Requirements

Q: What are the requirements to install Pocket Full of Listings?

A: The Pocket Full of Listings installation program installs all of the files you need to be able to download listing information and run Pocket Full of Listings on your Palm compatible PDA. This includes some components that will reside on your PC's hard drive (Pocket Full of Listings Desktop) and some components that will reside on your Palm compatible PDA (Pocket Full of Listings MLS a.k.a. PFoL MLS). Before you install Pocket Full of Listings make sure your computer and Palm compatible PDA meet the following requirements:

  • Pocket Full of Listings Desktop:
    • your computer must have one of the following versions of Windows®: 98/98SE, NT 4.0, 2000, ME or XP.
    • your computer needs at least 20 MB of hard disk space available on the drive where you plan to install Pocket Full of Listings.
    • your computer needs at least 128MB of RAM. We recommend 256MB or greater.
    • you have an Internet connection. Your computer should have at least a 56K dial-up connection. We recommend a Broadband (ADSL, Cable modem, Satellite, etc.) connection.
  • Pocket Full of Listings MLS (PFoL MLS):
    • Palm Operating System (OS) 3.1 to 5.x.
    • your Palm compatible PDA needs at least 8MB of RAM. We recommend 16MB.
    • we recommend a color screen, but PFoL MLS will also work with the monochrome or grayscale displays.

Q: Can I run Pocket Full of Listings (PFoL MLS) on a Palm Zire?

A: You may be able to run Pocket Full of Listings (PFoL MLS) on a Palm Zire. Since the Palm Zire only has 2 MB of RAM, you can only download a small number of listings. We recommend that your Palm compatible PDA has at least 8MB of RAM to run PFoL MLS.

Downloading Listings

Can I Download the Entire MLS into my Palm device?

Q: Can I download all of the listings in the MLS to my Palm device?

A: We do not recommend that you download all of the listings from your MLS. If you try to download all of the listings from your MLS into your Palm device, you may run out of memory on the Palm device. In addition, even if you could squeeze all of the listings on to your Palm device, searching through those listing would take a long time. With that many listings to search through, the performance of your Palm device suffers.

We recommend that you download listings for the areas you work in on a regular basis. For most Real Estate agents, this is somewhere between 1000 and 2500 listings.

Did Pocket Full of Listings Download Listings?

Q: How can I tell if Pocket Full of Listings downloaded listings to my Palm compatible PDA?

A: Each time Pocket Full of Listings downloads listings to your Palm compatible PDA, it adds an entry to the PFolDesktop.log file. The entries in this file list the status of each download. If you would like to view the contents of the PFolDesktop.log file, click the View Error Log button on the Pocket Full of Listings Desktop Main Menu window.

You can also ask Pocket Full of Listings to send you an e-mail message each time it downloads listings. This is probably more convenient than searching through the PFolDesktop.log file. To have Pocket Full of Listings send you an e-mail message, check the Send me a status report of each download check box on the E-mail tab in Pocket Full of Listings Desktop.

Can I Store Listings from More Than One Search on my PDA?

Q: I have three saved searches on the PDA Web site. Can I store listings from all three searches on my PDA?

A: You can only store listings from one search at a time. When you download listings, Pocket Full of Listings downloads listings that match your Active search criteria. When you HotSync your PDA, Pocket Full of Listings Conduit replaces the listings on your PDA with the listings it downloaded using your Active search criteria.

You may be able to workaround this by creating a fourth search to encompass your other three searches. Depending upon your search criteria, this may or may not work for your particular situation.

Q: Can I re-associate the files I downloaded from http://pda.mfm.com with PFoL Desktop?

A: Yes. In Windows click Start | Run. In the Open field on the Run window, type the following command: 

"C:\Program Files\MFM\Pocket Full of Listings\pliFileAssoc.exe" "C:\Program Files\MFM\Pocket Full of Listings\PFoLDesktop.exe"
Make sure you enter the above command on a single line. Click OK. The above command will associate the file you downloaded from http://pda.mfm.com to PFoL Desktop.
