How to Determine your Windows Version

New Computers
If you bought your computer after 1995, you are probably running a recent version of Windows (such as Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000). To determine your exact version of Windows:- Right-click the Start button, and select (left-click) the Explore item from the pop-up menu.
- When the Exploring - Start Menu window appears, select Help from the menu bar at the top of the window.
- Select the bottom entry on the Help Menu. It will say: About Windows 95, About Windows 98, or About Windows NT, depending on which operating system you are running.
Old Computers
If your computer is old (pre-1995), you may be running an old version of Windows which does not have a Start button (such as Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups). To determine your exact version of Windows:- Select Program Manager. (If you don't know how to do this, press Alt-Tab until Program Manager becomes current.)
- Select Help | About Program Manager... A dialog box will open that shows your version of Windows.
Windows Version and Revision
There may be times when MFM Technical Support needs to know the revision number of the version of Windows you are running. You can determine what version and revision of Windows you are running by:Windows 95, 98, or NT
- Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | System.
- Look on the General tab on the System Properties window.
Below the System: field, you will see information similar to:
Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.1998
- The first line is the version of Windows you are running. The second line is the revision number of that version of Windows. The example above shows Windows 98, revision 4.10.1998.
