Fax Modem Devices Tab: Fax Modem Capability

The Fax Modem Capability group appears on the Server Setup | Fax Modem Devices tab in the Fax Everywhere Control Panel.

The following radio buttons appear in the Fax Modem Capability group:

• Receive Only: you can select the Receive Only radio button if you want the fax modem you selected on the Devices pane to only receive faxes. This is useful if you want Fax Everywhere users to receive faxes and not send faxes.
  
  
• Send Only: you can select the Send Only radio button if you want the fax modem you selected on the Devices pane to only send faxes.
  
  
• Send and Receive: you can select the Send and Receive radio button if you want the fax modem you selected on the Devices pane to send and receive faxes.

You need to select one of the radio buttons in the Fax Modem Capability group for each fax modem you select on the Devices pane.

If Fax Everywhere handles a high volume of faxes, you may need to delegate specific fax modems to either send or receive, but not both. Since fax modems connect using loop start telephone lines, a condition called "glare" can occur in high volume situations. Glare occurs when fax modems attempt to place outbound calls and the telephone company's central office or business PBX system is trying to deliver inbound calls. There is a finite amount of time where both systems can attempt to seize the same telephone circuit for cross purposes. The result is an incomplete incoming fax transmission and a failure to send a fax. By default, Fax Everywhere selects the Send and Receive radio button.
