Enter Search Criteria: Compass System

Compass MLS next displays the Search Criteria window.

Enter the characteristics of the listings you want to look for in the Search Criteria window. Follow the directions shown for each criterion.

For example, the window often begins by asking the ZIP code to search. Type the zip code and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

If you do not know what ZIP code to enter in the ZIP code field, press the F1 key on your keyboard for a list of valid codes in your area. For example:

88888 OUT OF AREA

91901 ALPINE

91902 BONITA

91905 BOULEVARD

To select a ZIP code, highlight that number, and press the Enter key on your keyboard. Please note that the code does not appear in the Select ZIP Codes field until you press the F7 key to return to the Search Criteria window.

Next, enter the code for property type. For example, enter SD for "single family residence, detached."

If you do not know what code to enter for any field, press F1 for a list of valid codes for that field. Below are examples of codes for the Select Property Type(s) field:*

SD = Single Family Detached

SA = Single Family Attached

RI = Residential Income 2-4 Units

MH = Mobile Home

LL = Land/Lot

TS = Timeshare

RR = Residential Rental

· Note: The codes you see may vary from those here. Codes depend on the site specifications of your local MLS.

From an F1 Help menu, highlight a code you would like to enter. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. Press F7, and the code you selected in the F1 Help menu will appear in the corresponding field in the Search Criteria window.

Narrow your search by entering as many criteria as apply.

If you are prompted to "Enter the number (or name) of the field you will use to select records," enter a number from the list at the top of the window (such as a 9 for Total Bedrooms) and press the Enter key.

You may add as many criteria to your search as you want. Select each criterion from the list at the top of the window.

Once you've narrowed the search enough to display just the listings you want, you are ready to select matches to download.
