Getting Started Guide

for PC Access

Installing on a Peer-to-Peer Network

Because of limitations in the User Authorization mechanism, you cannot run the network version of PC Access on the same computer that is acting as a server for other workstations. This means that on a peer-to-peer network, the network version of PC Access will not be able to run on the "server".

To get around this problem you can purchase a separate standalone (i.e., Agent or Broker version) copy of PC Access and load it on the "server" for local use. You must, install the standalone version of PC Access to a different directory than you installed the Network version.

Regardless of the above limitation, MFM does NOT recommend running PC Access on a computer that is acting as a server for other computers. This includes print and file services. If you must run in this configuration, we strongly advise you to use a co-processor equipped serial card and an external modem, or use a TCP/IP connection to the MLS. If you fail to do this, you will more than likely experience communications errors whenever a workstation requests services from your computer (i.e., the server).
