Getting Started Guide
for PC Access
Network Installation: Full Description
This section lists step-by-step instructions on installing the Network version of PC Access for Windows.
If you would like an overview of the installation process, see: Network Installation: Overview.
- Insert the PC Access for Windows CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. From one of the workstations on your network, run
SETUP.EXE from the CD-ROM. This will install PC Access to the server.
You can run SETUP.EXE from Windows Explorer or from the Run window. If you need assistance installing PC Access, see: Installing Files.
- When you finish installing PC Access to your server, you need to install PC Access on each workstation you want to access the MLS via PC Access.
From a workstation, go to the PC Access directory on your server. Run the workstation setup program from your server: \PCAWIN\WORKSTA\SETUP.EXE. The workstation installation takes less time to complete than the server installation in step 1. The workstation setup does not require you to insert the PC Access for Windows CD-ROM.
- When you finish installing PC Access to a workstation, Setup will install the User Authorization. At the Installing PC Access User Authorization window, insert your PC Access Disk 1 into the diskette drive. Click OK to continue. The User Authorization Manager (UAM) will install several files. Next it will display a message telling you that it is going to install the User Authorization. It may ask you to insert Disk 1 again. Click OK to continue. After the UAM scans Disk 1 it will tell you that there is one (1) remaining install count on the disk. Click Yes to finish installing the User Authorization to the network drive.
For more information about installing the user authorization, see: Installing the User Authorization.
- Before you can access your MLS, you need to set up PC Access. Click Start | Programs | PC Access for Windows. Complete the fields on the Register PC Access for Windows window.
From the PC Access Main Menu window, click Setup Menu | Advanced. Complete the advanced setup to set up PC Access on your network. When you finish, remove Disk 1. You will not need the CD-ROM or Disk 1 for the rest of the workstation installations.
- To install PC Access on the remaining workstations on your network, run
\PCAWIN\WORKSTA\SETUP.EXE on each workstation. You will not need to run the User Authorization Manager or set up PC Access on each workstation.
For information on configuring PC Access to access your MLS across a WAN or the Internet, read the WANINST.TXT file in your PC Access directory.
