When to Use the Public File Transfer Directory

Checking this box is useful when you set up a Phone Book entry for a technical support bulletin board system (BBS). MFM added this feature to simplify technical support calls.

During a support call, the support representative must often guide you through uploading a file (such as an MSD report or PC Access setup-dump file) or downloading a file (such as a program update). Before you can upload a file with PC Access, you must copy that file to your upload directory, which is normally your Home Directory. When you download a file it goes to the same directory. That means at some point in the support call you have to know your Home Directory name. This is a problem, because nobody who calls for technical support knows their Home Directory. Therefore, MFM added the public file transfer directory option to the MLS Setup window to simplify transferring files to and from the MFM Support BBS. Your copy of PC Access comes pre-configured with a Phone Book entry for the MFM Support BBS, which uses the public file transfer directory.

· If you are setting up a Phone Book entry for downloading an update to PC Access from your MLS, do not check this box.
