Maestro Compressed Print

(Contents)(Previous)(Next)

If you get strange results when you try to print compressed reports from a BORIS Maestro System MLS, one of the following radio buttons should let you correct the problem:

· Do not override host: this is the default choice. It means to ask Windows to select the closest available font when Maestro tells PC Access to print in compressed mode. Unfortunately, this sometimes causes problems when Windows cannot find a suitable font. Maestro compressed reports often specify tall, narrow fonts. That is, Maestro may need a fixed-pitch font that is 12 points tall at 16 pitch (characters per inch) wide. If Windows is unable to find such a font, Windows tends to select a font with the correct point size and a much wider pitch. This creates a messy compressed report with horizontally overlapping characters. To fix it, select one of the following two choices.

· Use small point size: this tells PC Access to adjust Maestro's request from 12 points, 16 pitch to 7 points, 16 pitch. This is a much more commonly available fixed-pitch font size, so Windows can usually select a suitable font.

· Use user selected font: this tells PC Access to print compressed reports using the font you select by clicking the Compressed button in the Choose Fonts group. For this choice to be selectable, you must not have checked the Fast text w/printer fonts box in the Choose Fonts group.
