Assigning a COM Port to an Internal Modem

(Contents)(Previous)(Next)

· If you install an internal modem, you must assign it to a COM port that your computer is not already using. Alternatively, you can re-assign or disable one of the COM ports in your computer to make room for the internal modem's COM port. This can quickly become more complicated than installing an external modem.

· If you do not have experience working with computer hardware, you should consider having a technician install your internal modem for you. Just be sure the technician tells you what COM port the modem uses, and what other COM ports your computer still has available.
