If you are new to computers or Windows, please read this for important information. Computers are wonderful, powerful machines, but if you don't know a few simple tricks you'll have more than your share of frustration.
· If you haven't used Windows before, and you are running Windows 3.1x, you should run the Windows Tutorial.
· If you haven't already, go to any bookstore that has a computer section and buy some introductory books. The following best-sellers are highly entertaining and informative, and you don't need any computer background to understand them:
¨ DOS for Dummies by Dan Gookin, IDG Books.
¨ Modems for Dummies by Tina Rathbone, IDG Books.
¨ Windows for Dummies by Andy Rathbone, IDG Books.
· In addition to reading about your computer, we urge you to consider training classes and videotapes. Classes and videos cannot entirely replace reading books and manuals on your own, but they are the simplest way to learn basic skills and concepts that can be difficult to grasp until you see them in action.
¨ Training classes in basic and advanced computer skills are available at universities, community colleges, training companies, and larger computer stores. Your MLS provider may also offer training classes specific to PC Access.
¨ Training videos present the same material you get in a training class, with the benefit of lower cost, greater convenience, and the ability to view the material as many times as you want. If you live in a medium-sized or larger city, your public library probably has a collection of computer training videos you can view at no cost. Your neighborhood video store may have some titles you can rent inexpensively. Every large computer store offers many titles at prices ranging from $15 to $50. If you manage an office, you should purchase a selection of titles to lend to your agents.
· When PC Access reports an error message, look for a Help button on the message window. If additional help is available for the message, you can click the Help button to view it.
· The PC Access online help (which you are using now) contains much useful information. However, to find the information you need, you must learn to use the Windows help system.
· Increasingly, the action in the world of computers is shifting to the World Wide Web. You should obtain Web access as soon as you can. Visit MFM's home page, and rest assured MFM will be there to guide you as our industry transitions to Internet and Intranet technology.
