When you run PC Access for Windows by double clicking on its icon in the Windows 3.1x Program Manager, you are actually starting a complex chain of events that eventually displays the PC Access Main Menu window. During this startup process PC Access allocates blocks of memory from Windows. Some of these memory blocks are known as "lower DOS memory". If your computer does not have enough lower DOS memory blocks available for PC Access you will see an error message like: "Could not allocate real mode memory buffer".
If this occurs you will have to load a special driver that solves this problem. To do so, follow these instructions:
1. Start Windows and open the Main group in Program Manager. Make sure no other programs are running. (If you are not sure whether other programs are running, press Ctrl-Esc to open the Windows Task List.)
2. Double click on the Control Panel icon.
3. Double click on the Drivers icon.
4. Click the Add... button.
Highlight the Unlisted or Updated Driver entry and click the OK button.
1. Put your PC Access for Windows - Disk 1 diskette in your diskette drive. Make sure the Install Driver dialog shows the name of your diskette drive in its input field. This is A:\ for most people. Click on OK.
2. The Add Unlisted or Updated Driver dialog should appear and show you a driver called Az-Tech Software Memory Driver. Click the OK button.
3. After Windows copies the driver file it will tell you that Windows must restart to load the driver. Click the Restart Now button. Windows should restart and you can try running PC Access again.
If the above steps do not correct the problem, you may have to run MEMMAKER.
