Resolution

The number of pixels available on a computer display or printer. "Display resolution" refers to the total numbers of available pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions. For example, "640x480" refers to a display with 640 pixels horizontally and 480 pixels vertically. "Printer resolution," on the other hand, refers to the number of available pixels in one linear inch on a printed page. For example, a high-quality laser printer prints at up to 600 pixels per inch. (Printer pixels are usually called dots, so printer resolutions usually have units of dots per inch (DPI).)
