The Speed (in bits per second) radio button group appears on both the Setup Assistant and the advanced versions of the MLS Setup window. Click the radio button corresponding to your modem's speed. If you have a 14,400 bps modem, select 19,200 or 38,400 bps. If you have a 28,800 bps modem, select 38,400 or 57,600 bps. (For more information on selecting the speed appropriate for your modem, see Modem Speed and Protocol.) The dial-up service you are calling must be able to communicate at the speed you select. Almost all remote services can communicate at 2400 bps, and most have modernized their equipment to support higher speeds.
