Purge Files

One duty of the System Administrator is to monitor the amount of free disk space left on your computer. If the disk fills up, your users will be unable to use PC Access (and any other programs that use disk space to store data or temporary files). Every time a user saves a slide, a portion of the Scroll Back buffer, a PCX, TIFF, or BMP (photo) file, or any other information, these files use some of the computer's disk space. If several users save files frequently, your disk space can fill quickly.

To help the System Administrator control the amount of free disk space, the File Manager window has a Purge button. Clicking the Purge button displays the Purge (Erase) Agent Files window. This window shows the current free space on the disk, the amount of disk space used by agents' saved data, today's date, a purge-older-than date, and the amount of space PC Access could free by purging files older than that date. This function affects only agent data files.

By selecting a date and clicking the Purge button, you tell PC Access to purge (erase) only the agent files that are older than that date. (You may select a date with the calendar control or the QuickSet Age buttons.) By default, PC Access selects a date that is 90 days before today's date. If you accept this default, PC Access permanently deletes all files in the agent directories that are more than 90 days old.

Since this action is irreversible, we recommend that the System Administrator inform agents about impending purges at least a day in advance. This gives agents a chance to save their most important files to a floppy disk that they can keep for future use. Agents wishing to do this may use the File Manager to copy their files.
