Search Tips

• Avoid short words or numbers in your search string. These can sometimes cause WebGlimpse to search for a very long time, or time out with no results. Examples: to, of, and, 1, 2, 3, etc.
• Type search phrases without quotes. Your phrase may contain embedded spaces, and words may contain numerals.
• To search for files containing two words or phrases anywhere in the file, separate the words or phrases with a semicolon. (This is a Boolean AND search.)
• To search for files containing either of two words or phrases, separate the words or phrases with a comma. (This is a Boolean OR search.)
• If at first you don't succeed, try allowing more misspellings. Your keywords may contain misspellings.
• WebGlimpse will show you a line of context for every match on the search results page. This will help you decide quickly which messages in the archive are worth examining further. Some pages may be very long; when you follow a link to a page, you will initially see the top of the page. The text you want to see may be much farther down the page. Use your browser's local search command to zero in on the text you want to see.
• If you see blank lines in your search results, WebGlimpse has found your search string within HTML tags on a page (for example, within HTML comment tags). To view the text you have found, you can view the HTML source of the search results page in your Web browser. Most often, text within HTML comments will not be what you were looking for, so usually you can ignore these apparently blank lines in the search results.
