PC Access for Windows Reference Guide

for PC Access for Windows 4.30.158

Agent Setup

The Agent Setup window appears when you click the Agents button on the Advanced Setup Menu window. The Agent Setup window lets you maintain a directory of agents who you (the PC Access System Administrator) authorize to use your Office/Broker version of PC Access. For each agent, you can specify several things, including their name, Agent ID, phone numbers, and home directory.

The window displays the agent names you have entered so far. The list of agent names is scrollable; you can manipulate the scroll bar with the mouse if your current list is too long to display all at once. A highlight bar marks the current entry in the list.

· Add: Click this button to add a new agent entry to the agent list.

· Delete: Click this button to delete the current agent entry. This does not remove the agent's directory or delete any of the agent's files.

· Edit: Click this button to edit the current entry. You must have at least one entry in the agent list, and the highlight bar must be on it, before you can use this button.

¨ If you click the Add button, the Add Agent window appears. (If you click the Edit button, the same window appears with the title Edit Agent.)

· Reset: This button appears only on the network version of PC Access. Clicking this button deletes the LOGGED.IN file from the highlighted agent's Home Directory. PC Access creates this file in an agent's directory when a user on the network:

  1. Runs PC Access

  2. Selects that agent from the Agent List window

  3. Opens the Terminal window by clicking the Call MLS button on the Main Menu window or the Dial button on the Phone Book window

· Thus the LOGGED.IN files in all the agent home directories allow PC Access to track which agents have currently logged into a remote host. PC Access indicates these agents by a plus (+) sign next to the agents' names in the List of Agents.

· PC Access normally deletes an agent's LOGGED.IN file when a user who has selected that agent closes the Terminal window. However, if that user's copy of PC Access crashes while the user is online, the LOGGED.IN file may remain in the agent's home directory. This can fool PC Access into thinking that agent never logged off the remote host. If this happens you can delete the spurious LOGGED.IN file by highlighting the agent and clicking the Reset button.

· Close: Click this button when you are finished editing or viewing agent list entries.
