for PC Access for Windows 4.30.158

Comm port out of range

This error can appear under several conditions, including:

· When you attempt to dial your MLS or a Phone Book service.

· When you open the Modem Setup window.

The error means something is wrong with your current COM port setting on the Modem Setup window.

One cause of this error is a corrupted PC Access phone book file. You can usually fix this problem by opening the Modem Setup window. When you open the Modem Setup window, PC Access checks your current COM port setting to see if it is in the valid range. If it isn't, PC Access defaults your modem to COM1. You should then click the Test button on the Modem Setup window. After you pass the modem test, click the OK button to close the Modem Setup window. This saves your corrected settings.

Another possible cause of the Comm port out of range error is to change your hardware after you install PC Access, without changing your PC Access setup. For example, suppose you originally used an internal modem on COM3, and later you removed the internal modem and replaced it with an external modem on COM2. If your computer no longer has a COM3, your old modem setup is invalid. If you try to dial a service with your old modem setup, PC Access detects the problem and displays this error message.

If you aren't sure what COM ports your computer has, you can check them with MSD. You can also run PORTINFO to diagnose more serious serial port problems.
