PC Access for Windows Reference Guidefor PC Access for Windows 4.30.158Dialing PrefixesYour MLS must tell you the telephone number to type in the Dial From Home # or Dial from Office # field. However, you may need to add some prefixes to the telephone number to make it work correctly on your telephone line. · You may specify these Dialing Prefixes just once and have PC Access apply them to all MLS Setup and Phone Book Setup entries that use Modem as their Connection method. If you prefer to do this, use the Dialing Prefixes checkboxes on the Advanced Modem Wizard Setup window to add the Dialing Prefixes to your Dial Command. Reaching an Outside Line If the telephone line running to your modem goes through a PBX or key system, you may have to dial "
The comma will cause a delay of a few seconds to allow your switching equipment to process the call and give you an outside dial tone. Disabling Call Waiting If you have call waiting on the same phone line the modem connects to, you may have trouble if you are using your modem and someone calls in. The call waiting tones disrupt your modem and may disconnect you from the MLS computer. To solve this problem, many telephone companies allow you to disable call waiting on a call-by-call basis. To do so, first check with your telephone company about availability in your area. (You can also look in your telephone directory; you will probably find information on call waiting in the section describing long distance dialing and other services.) If the feature is available, you will probably need to dial
This disables call waiting on your current call. (Use two commas for a longer pause. This gives the phone company's equipment enough time to react.) Once you hang up, call waiting automatically reactivates for the next call. If you make the next call from PC Access by clicking the Call MLS button, the dialing prefix you entered will disable call waiting again. However, call waiting will be available on your next voice call on this line. This topic has changed for PC Access 4.30 (Tuesday, December 8, 1998).
