PC Access for Windows Reference Guide

for PC Access for Windows 4.30.158

Downloading an Update to PC Access from Your MLS

Before most PC Access users had access to the World Wide Web, MFM developed an automatic method that allows you to update your copy of PC Access for Windows by downloading update files directly from your MLS. This may still be useful if you are not able to access the Web. Check with your MLS provider to see if this service is available. (If you have access to the Web, you will probably find it more convenient to download an update to PC Access from the MFM Web site instead.)

If you have never downloaded an update from your MLS before, begin with step (1). Otherwise, you should be able to skip ahead to step (15).

  1. Click the Phone Book button on the PC Access Main Menu window.

  2. On the Phone Book Select window, look for an entry with the title: PC Access Update Process. If you find one, skip ahead to step (15). If you do not have one, proceed to step (3) where you will create one.

  3. Close the Phone Book Select window by clicking the Close button.

  4. Click the Setup Menu button on the PC Access Main Menu window.

  5. If you see the Setup Assistant window, click the Advanced button to open the Advanced Setup Menu window.

  6. Click the Phone Book button on the Advanced Setup Menu window.

  7. On the Phone Book Setup window, highlight the entry for your MLS. Click the Copy button to open the Add Phone Book Entry window. (Be sure to click the Copy button, not the Add button, so PC Access will copy your MLS Setup items into the new phone book entry you are creating.)

  8. On the Add Phone Book Entry window, enter: PC Access Update Process in the Service Name field.

  9. Click the Pick button to the right of the Login Script File field. If your MLS is a Master System, select PRIMEUP.SCR as your Login Script File. If your MLS is a Maestro System, select UNIXUP.SCR as your Login Script File.

  10. In the Settings group, make sure you do not have either of these two boxes checked: Auto Zmodem Download and Use Public Download Directory.

  11. Click the OK button to close the Add Phone Book Entry window.

  12. Click the Close button to close the Phone Book Setup window.

  13. Click the Close button to close the Advanced Setup Menu window.

  14. Click the Phone Book button on the PC Access Main Menu window.

  15. On the Phone Book Select window, highlight the PC Access Update Process entry and click the Dial button.

  16. PC Access should dial your MLS, log on automatically, download the update files, display a message telling you to restart PC Access, and then exit to the Windows 3.1x Program Manager or Windows 95/NT desktop. If you get a message saying that PC Access could not complete the download, return to step (15) and try downloading the files again.

  17. Run PC Access again. PC Access will automatically detect the update files and prompt you for permission to update your current version of PC Access. Click the Yes button on the message window. PC Access will update itself and exit back to Windows.

  18. Run PC Access again. You should now be running the new version. To see your current version number and build number, click the MFM button on the Main Menu window.
