CPU

(Central Processing Unit) The part of a computer which executes programs and exchanges information between the computer's memory and its peripherals. In IBM-compatible personal computers, the CPU consists of (usually) one chip which is backward-compatible with the Intel 8088. Newer personal computers use CPU chips such as the 80386, 80486, Pentium, and Pentium Pro.
