MSD

The Microsoft Diagnostics program. MSD comes with Windows 3.1x and MS-DOS 6.0 and higher versions. Run MSD at your MS-DOS prompt to learn useful information about your computer's hardware and system software. This is extremely handy for determining several setup items for PC Access. For example, you can check your serial ports with MSD.

If you have Windows 95, MSD is on your Windows 95 CD-ROM, but the Windows 95 setup program does not install it on your hard drive. Insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and type:

DIR D:\MSD.EXE /S

at an MS-DOS prompt. (If your CD-ROM has a different drive letter, modify the above command appropriately.) This command shows you the directory containing your MSD.EXE file; copy it to your Windows directory so you can run it conveniently.
