PC Access for Windows Reference Guidefor PC Access for Windows 4.30.158High-speed modemsIf you have a modern high-speed modem, it may provide a speed-increasing technology called data compression. If the service you call has a similar modem, your modem can exchange data at an average speed as much as four times higher than its non-compressed speed rating. (The potential speedup varies with the type of data you are transmitting, and this can vary during an online session.) If you have such a modem, you may benefit from selecting a speed on this radio button group which is higher than your modem's speed. (See your modem's documentation for information on its capabilities. In general, if you see "V.42bis" or "MNP" in the modem's name or technical description, it probably supports data compression.)
