PC Access for Windows Reference Guide

for PC Access for Windows 4.30.158

Host Feature: URL Hyperlinking

(Compass, Maestro System) When your MLS displays a URL in the Terminal window client area, PC Access displays the URL as blue underlined text on a white background. You can click on the URL to open the Web page in your Web browser. For this to work the following conditions must be true:

· You must have a Web browser installed on your computer.

· You must be running a 32-bit version of Windows, for example: Windows 95, 98, 2000, or NT 4.0.

· You must must have PCAPLUS.EXE installed in your PC Access executable directory. If you installed PC Access 4.30.155 or a later version, you should have the right version of PCAPLUS.EXE.

· Your computer must be able to connect to your MLS and the Internet at the same time. You can do this in two ways:

¨ If you connect to your MLS by modem (i.e., you selected Modem as your Connection method on the MLS Setup window, General tab), then your computer will need to connect to the Internet through some other kind of communication service (such as a LAN connection to an Internet router). In other words, if you connect to your MLS directly by modem, you cannot connect to the Internet through that same modem at the same time.

¨ If you connect to your MLS via the Internet (i.e., you selected TCP-telnet or TCP-rlogin as your Connection method on the MLS Setup window, General tab), then your computer already connects to the Internet at large. If you use Dial-Up Networking to access the Internet, you need to fill out the Internet Setup window.

The Terminal window recognizes a text string from the MLS as a URL if it matches one of the following patterns:

· A string beginning with www or http: followed by a sequence of non-blank characters. The URL ends at the first space character or end of the current line after the www or http:, whichever comes first.

· A string beginning with www or http: enclosed in angle brackets: < >. PC Access considers everything inside the angle brackets to be the URL, including space characters, quote characters, and so on. PC Access will properly URL-encode all such "funny" characters in the URL it sends to your Web browser.

Here are some examples of URLs the Terminal window recognizes:
