No Dialtone

When PC Access tried to dial your MLS or Phone Book service, your modem sent back a No Dialtone message.

Possible causes:

· Your telephone line or wiring may be faulty, or you haven't plugged your modem into a telephone line.

· You may have an incorrect Dial Command on the Modem Setup window. A common error is to specify ATDT on a telephone line that only has pulse (rotary) dialing. For pulse dialing, the correct dialing command is ATDP.

If your Dial Command appears correct, check your telephone line with the following procedure:

1. Unplug your modem from the wall telephone jack. Plug a working standard telephone into the same jack. If the telephone stops working, the jack wiring is bad or the telephone company hasn't activated the line.
   
   
2. If the telephone does work, plug your modem back into the wall jack. Inspect the connection to your modem (see Telephone Wiring). A common error is to plug your telephone cable into the wrong jack on the back of your modem. You only have two jacks to try, so you can always try calling your MLS from each one in turn. If your jack wiring appears correct, or you get No Dialtone from both jacks, plug a standard telephone into the second jack on the modem. The telephone should be able to "dial through" the modem. If it doesn't, you may have a bad telephone cable, or a bad jack in your modem.
