Running MSD and Creating a Report
This help topic tells you how to run MSD and create a report file. You should do this only if all the following conditions are true:
· You are running an old version of Windows (Windows 3.1x).
· You are having a difficult problem with PC Access.
· A support representative has requested detailed information about your computer.
If you are running a newer version of Windows and your support representative needs detailed information about your computer, see the appropriate page on the MFM Web site instead:
· Windows 95:
http://www.mfm.com/support/std_procedures/win95info.html
· Windows 98.
http://www.mfm.com/support/std_procedures/win98info.html
· Windows NT 4.0.

If you are running Windows 3.1x and your support representative needs detailed information about your computer, complete the following steps:
- Exit all your Windows applications. Exit Windows by selecting File | Exit from the Program Manager menu. When you return to the DOS prompt, change the current directory to your PC Access public download directory, and then run
MSD:
C:
CD \PCAWIN\DOWNLOAD
MSD
(Press the Enter key after each command. If you installed PC Access for Windows to a different drive or directory, modify the above commands accordingly.) MSD checks your computer and shows a screen with a menu bar at the top and several buttons.
- Select the File menu item. (Press
Alt-F or click the mouse on the File menu item.)
- Press the
P key to select Print Report...
- A Report Information window opens. It should look similar to the following:
- On the Report Information window, check the Report All box.
- Select
File as your Print to destination. In the file name field, change the file name from the default REPORT.MSD to something unique to you, such as your first initial and the first seven letters of your last name. For example, you could type:
JSMITH.MSD
for your file name. Then click the OK button with your mouse, or press the Enter key.
- A Customer Information window opens next. As you fill it out, press the
Tab key to advance to the next field. Do not press Enter until you finish filling out all the fields. When you finish filling out the Customer Information window, it should be similar to the following:
- Click the OK button with your mouse, or press the
Enter key, to save your MSD report file.
- Press the
F3 key to exit MSD.
- Re-start Windows by typing:
WIN
and press the Enter key.
- E-mail your
MSD report file to:
mfm-techsupport@mfm.com
E-mail your MSD report file in a reply message to the most recent message you have received from MFM Technical Support.
