Providing Automatic Updates to PC Access
MFM has developed an automatic method that allows PC Access users to download updates directly from your MLS to their computers. This makes it simple to insure that all your agents who purchased PC Access for Windows are running the latest version, at much lower cost than sending out thousands of update diskettes. To provide this valuable service to your agents, you need to:
· Purchase a copy of the ZMODEM program that runs on your host. Prices usually range from $500 to $800. Only one copy of ZMODEM is necessary for your MLS.
· Contact MFM for details on setting up a special login account on your host to run a shell program that downloads the PC Access update files. MFM can provide a shell program for UNIX systems; if your host runs a different operating system, MFM will have to work with your personnel to develop something equivalent.
· Inform your agents about this method of updating their copies of PC Access. (Click here to see the standard procedure for your agents to follow.) Your agents receive script files with their copies of PC Access that let them automatically download update files from your MLS. These script files are: UNIXUP.SCR (for downloading from Maestro Systems) and PRIMEUP.SCR (for downloading from Master Systems). Provided that you follow MFM guidelines for setting up the PC Access update login account on your host, your agents will be able to use the appropriate script file without modification.
· Select one of the following methods for obtaining periodic PC Access updates from MFM:
¨ You may dial into the MFM BBS and download the update files. (There is no charge to you for this method.)
¨ You may connect to the MFM World Wide Web server and download the update files. (There is no charge to you for this method.)
¨ You may order your update files on diskettes. (Contact MFM for pricing.)
¨ You may provide MFM a login account on your host, and MFM will dial into your system and upload the update files. (Contact MFM for pricing.)
