PC Access for Windows Reference Guidefor PC Access Version 4.30![]() ![]() ![]()
Communication ErrorPC Access detected an error while attempting to initiate or maintain a communication link to your modem. The message states the specific error. · If the error is Comm link couldn't be opened while you are initializing your COM port, the most likely cause is that you selected a COM port on the Modem Setup window which either doesn't exist, or which connects to a serial mouse. In other words, you probably did not select the COM port that connects to your modem. If you don't know which COM port your modem uses, you have at least two ways to find out: ¨ Check your COM ports with MSD. ¨ Guess. You only have four COM ports to try, so open the Modem Setup window, select another COM port, and click the Test button. Keep trying until your modem tests OK. If you test all four COM ports and keep getting the Comm link couldn't be opened message, you may have a serious hardware problem. You should run PORTINFO. · If the error is Comm link is already open while you are initializing your COM port, you are probably running another program that is using your modem. For example, you may be running a FAX program or another communication program such as Windows Terminal. Shut down any other applications that are using your modem and try again with PC Access. · For all other errors, follow the procedure for an Internal Error.
