ASCII

The American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a scheme for associating letter and number characters with numerical codes a computer can store. An ASCII file is a plain text file that you can view or edit with a text-editor program such as Windows Notepad. This is in contrast to a binary file which you normally cannot usefully view or edit with a text editor. For more information, see this URL on the Internet:
