Bit

(BInary digiT) The smallest unit of computer information. Computers represent all information (text, photos, sound, video, time, and executable programs) as binary numbers (numbers to base 2). This follows from the physical nature of computers. They are made of many switches that can have two values (on and off, or zero and one).
