COMnFIFO

If your serial port has a 16550 UART, and you are running Windows 3.1, 3.11, or Windows for Workgroups 3.11, you may need to add a line to your SYSTEM.INI file to enable the 165550 UART to run at full speed. In the [386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file, you should have a line with COMnFIFO=1 where n is the number of the COM port your modem uses. (For example, if your modem is on COM1, you should have COM1FIFO=1 on that line in your SYSTEM.INI file.) Because of a bug in early versions of the Windows documentation, some software applications will automatically and erroneously insert a line like COM1FIFO=TRUE in your SYSTEM.INI file. Anything other than a 1 to the right of the equal sign will not enable your 16550 UART to run at full speed.
