PC Access for Windows Reference Guidefor PC Access Version 4.30![]()
DisketteA removable storage medium for computer data. Diskettes have two standard sizes: 3.5" diameter with a rigid case, and an older 5.25" size with a flexible case. If you purchase PC Access on diskettes, you will receive 3.5" diskettes. In both types of diskette, the magnetic recording medium is flexible (i.e., floppy). Therefore some people call a diskette a floppy disk or floppy. MFM prefers the term diskette because the rigid case of newer 3.5" diskettes is not flexible, and thus the term floppy tends to confuse new computer users. A diskette has a write-protect tab that tells your computer not to write information on it. If you intend to write data to a diskette, check to make sure it is not write protected by sliding the write-protect tab to the closed position.
