Search for Listings

Before you can search for listings, you need to download listings into your Palm compatible PDA. For information on how to get listings into you PDA, see: Setting up your Search Criteria.

The following instructions will guide you through a sample search on your PDA.

1. From your PDA's Main Menu window, tap PFoL MLS.

   

2. When you tap PFoL MLS, your PDA displays the Pocket Full of Listings Main Menu window.

   

3. From the Pocket Full of Listings Main Menu window, you can search for listings in one of the following two ways:

   ¨ Browse By Area

   ¨ Custom Search

   In this example, we will use Custom Search.

   

4. From the Search window, tap the first box in the Select up to 3 Areas group. From the drop-down list you can select All to search all areas; or select one of the area names you would like to search. To clear an area from a particular search, select None from the drop-down list. To add additional areas, you can repeat this process with the remaining two boxes in this group. You can select up to three areas to search.
   
   
5. By default, Pocket Full of Listings sets the price range from $0 - $99,999,999. If you would like to enter a different price range, you can edit these fields.

   

6. You can also narrow the search by matching values in one of the following five fields: Street Name, School District, Sub Area, MLS Number, and Min. Bedrooms. To select one of these fields, tap the down arrow to the left of the field name. From the drop-down list, select the field you want to use. Next, tap in the field to the right of the equals sign and enter the value you want to search for. This field allows partial matches. For example, if you want to look up listings in the "Sycamore" School District, you can enter "Syca" (to save time typing) in the field and it will match any School District beginning with "Syca". The Street Name, School District, Sub Area, and MLS Number fields all work with partial matching. The Min. Bedrooms field looks for listings containing the minimum number of bedrooms you specify in this field.
   
   
7. To select the status of the listings you want to see, tap the Active, Pending, Sold, Expired, or Other check box.
   
   
8. When you finish, tap Start Search.

   

9. Pocket Full of Listings displays a one-line summary of the listings that match your search criteria. The columns on the Search Results window have the following meaning:

   ¨ Status (i.e. Active, Pending, etc.)

   ¨ Sub Area

   ¨ Total Bedrooms

   ¨ Full / Partial Baths

   ¨ Price

   ¨ Street Name

   You can use the VCR-Style buttons in the bottom right corner of the screen to move from screen to screen of the search results. You may also use the scroll buttons on your Palm compatible PDA to move forward and backward through the list of results. In addition, you can tap the bar containing the Page X of Y text and select a page number to move to.

10. To view detailed listing information, tap on the row containing a listing. Pocket Full of Listings displays the Details window.

    

11. On the Details window, you can tap the Main, Rooms, Notes, or Agent tab to view detailed listing information. You can use the VCR-Style buttons to move to the next or previous listing. If Pocket Full of Listings cannot fit all of the listing's information on one screen, it will display a vertical scrollbar. You can use the vertical scrollbar to scroll through the text in the window. If all of the listing's information fits on one screen, Pocket Full of Listings does not display the vertical scrollbar.
    
    
12. You can tap the dollar sign ($) tab to display the Amortization window.

    

13. You can use the Amortization window to determine the monthly payment, down payment and interest rate for the listing that appears in the Details window.
    
    
14. When you finish, tap Done to return to the Details window. Tap Done again to return to the Search Results window.
    
    
15. From the Search Results window, you can tap Done to return to the Pocket Full of Listings Main Menu window.
