[Related Information]
The PC Access® for Windows CD-ROM contains the program files. The 3.5"
disk contains your User Authorization and configuration files. If you are installing PC Access
from diskettes, disks 2 - 4 or 5 contain the program files and Disk 1
contains your User Authorization and configuration files. If your computer does not have
a 3.5" disk drive, you can still install your User Authorization and configuration files.
If your computer meets the following criteria:
- your computer is on a network
- your computer has access to a 3.5" disk drive on another computer
on your network
You can use the instructions on this page to install the PC Access program
files, your User Authorization, and configuration files. To get started, see:
Install to a Computer on a Network.
If you need assistance, you can contact MFM Technical Support via e-mail at:
mfm-techsupport@mfm.com.
MFM does not provide telephone support for these instructions. In addition,
MFM does not provide support for Windows, Networks, or other Peripherals you
may have connected to your computer. Other Peripherals may include,
a USB Floppy Disk Drive, CD-Burner, or External Hard Disk Drive.
-
Install PC Access to your computer. If you need assistance, see:
Installing Files.
- Note: an anti-virus program, like Norton AntiVirus
or McAfee AntiVirus,
may interfere with the InstallShield installation program.
If InstallShield freezes during the installation
process, or does not continue further than the Progress Indicator
window, temporarily disable your anti-virus program. When you finish
installing PC Access for Windows, you can enable
your anti-virus program.
- After you install the PC Access program files, the Setup program
runs the User Authorization Manager (UAM).
The UAM tries to perform two separate parts of the installation,
but only the first part will work on a non-local disk drive. The first part installs the
configuration files and you should allow the UAM to perform this
part. After the UAM installs the configuration files, it will prompt
you to install the User Authorization. Since you are using a non-local disk drive
you need to click Cancel at this point, then proceed to
the next step in these instructions.
- Instead of using the UAM to install your User Authorization, you need to use
the Forced User Authorization Install method. To get started,
insert Disk 1 into the disk drive you have access
to via your network.
- Open a MS-DOS Prompt or
Command Prompt window.
- Windows 95/98: click Start |
Programs | MS-DOS Prompt
- Windows NT 4.0: click Start |
Programs | Command Prompt
- Windows ME: click Start |

- Windows 2000: click Start |

- Type the following commands in the MS-DOS Prompt or
Command Prompt window. These commands will force the
installation of the user authorization. The SCMOVE command
will generate a six digit detailed user code. In step 6, you will
submit the detailed user code to MFM Technical Support.
Substitute x: with the drive letter of the 3.5" disk drive
on your network.
- Click this link:
No Disk Drive Reset Code Request Form to open the
No Disk Drive Reset Code Request Form. You will use this form to
submit your six digit detailed user code to MFM Technical Support.
After MFM Technical Support receives your six digit detailed user code,
they will e-mail you a reset code. After you receive your reset code,
continue with the next step in these instructions.
- Note: Do not press Enter until you enter
your reset code. Keep the MS-DOS Prompt or
Command Prompt window
open until you enter your reset code from MFM Technical Support.
If you press Enter before you enter your reset code, you will
have to run SCMOVE again. This may change the six
digit detailed user code. This means the reset code from MFM Technical Support
may no longer be valid.
- After you enter the reset code, press Enter.
- if you see Complete in the MS-DOS Prompt or
Command Prompt window, you installed your User Authorization.
- if you do not see Complete, make sure you typed the reset code in
correctly. If you typed the
reset code incorrectly, repeat the SCMOVE command and request
another reset code from MFM Technical Support.
- if you did type the reset code correctly, and the user authorization did
not install, report any error message(s) and the problem to
MFM Technical Support.
- If you correctly installed your User Authorization, close the
MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt window.

your registration code in the REGCODE.DAT file on
Disk 1. You do not need to enter your registration code
on subsequent installations.
- Enter your registration code on the Register PC Access for Windows

on the Back Up PC Access for Windows Setup Files window.

Normally, you would back up the above files to the PC Access Disk 1.
However, since your computer does not have a 3.5" disk drive, you may
want to back up these files to one of the following:
- another directory on your computer's hard drive
- a portable external drive
- a CD-R / CD-RW disk
You want to back up these files to place that is convenient for you. If
you need to reinstall PC Access, you can use these files to restore your
settings.
- Note: the installation program does not create a PC Access
desktop shortcut. You will need to create a desktop shortcut to
run PC Access. To create a PC Access desktop shortcut, see:
How to Create a PC Access Desktop Shortcut.
