How to Install PC Access 4.30 CD-ROM to a Laptop with One Media Device

Introduction

PC Access 4.30.151 and later versions are available on CD-ROM. If you purchased the CD-ROM version you also have a 3.5" diskette. The CD-ROM contains the PC Access program files. The 3.5" diskette contains the files PC Access uses to install your user authorization. The normal procedure for installing PC Access from the CD-ROM assumes your computer can access its CD-ROM and diskette drives simultaneously.

Some laptop computers have one drive bay or connector where the user can plug in a CD-ROM drive or a 3.5" diskette drive. Such a laptop cannot use both types of drives simultaneously. If your laptop can only use one removable media device at a time (for the above reason or any other reason), you need to select one of the following alternate methods to install PC Access:


Copy the CD-ROM to your Hard Drive

  1. Windows 95 or 98 users:
    Click Start | Programs | MS-DOS Prompt.
    Windows NT 4.0 users:
    Click Start | Programs | Command Prompt.
  2. Insert your PC Access for Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  3. In the MS-DOS window, type the following commands:
    • Note: The commands below assume your CD-ROM drive is D:\
      C:
      CD \
      MD PCACD
      COPY D:\SETUP\*.* C:\PCACD
      
  4. Type
      EXIT
      
    to close the MS-DOS window.
  5. Remove the PC Access CD from your CD-ROM drive.
  6. Click Start | Shut Down. Shut down your computer. Replace the CD-ROM drive with your 3.5" diskette drive.
  7. Turn on your computer.
  8. Click Start | Run.
  9. In the Run window, next to Open: type the following command:
        C:\PCACD\SETUP.EXE
       
    click OK.
  10. Follow the instructions on your screen to install PC Access and the PC Access user authorization.
    • Note: After you install PC Access for Windows you can remove the C:\PCACD directory.

Re-start your Computer During the Installation

  1. Insert your PC Access CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Follow the instructions on your screen to install the PC Access program files.
    • Note: If the PC Access CD does not start automatically, follow the instructions below to install PC Access:
      1. Click Start | Run.
      2. In the Run window, next to Open: type the following command:
                D:\SETUP.EXE
                
        click OK.
  3. On the Setup Complete window, click Finish.
  4. The Installing Configuration Files window will prompt you to insert your PC Access for Windows Disk 1. Click Cancel. This will return you to your desktop.
  5. Remove the PC Access CD from your CD-ROM drive.
  6. Click Start | Shut Down. Shut down your computer. Replace the CD-ROM drive with your 3.5" diskette drive.
  7. Turn on your computer.
  8. Click Start | Programs | PC Access for Windows | User Auth Manager.
  9. On the User Auth Manager window, click Install.
  10. Insert your PC Access for Windows Disk 1 into your 3.5" diskette drive.
  11. Follow the instructions on your screen to install your user authorization.

Create 4.30 Disks from the CD
