Creating PC Access icons in Windows 3.1x

  1. To be on the safe side, close all your Windows applications. Find your Program Manager window. Close all open group windows in the Program Manager window.
  2. If you already have a PC Access for Windows group icon, open it by double-clicking it. Otherwise, create a PC Access for Windows group by these steps:
    1. Select File | New... from the Program Manager menu.
    2. On the New Program Object dialog, select Program Group and click the OK button.
    3. On the Program Group Properties dialog, enter the following information:
      • Description: PC Access for Windows
    4. Click the OK button to close the Program Group Properties dialog. You now have an open PC Acccess for Windows group window. Continue with the following steps.
  3. Select File | New... from the Program Manager menu.
  4. On the New Program Object dialog, select Program Item and click the OK button.
  5. On the Program Item Properties dialog, enter the following information:
    • Description: PC Access for Windows
    • Command Line: C:\PCAWIN\LAUNCH.EXE
      • Note: If you installed PC Access for Windows on a different drive or in a different directory, modify the Command Line: and Working Directory: accordingly.
    • Working Directory: C:\PCAWIN
    • Shortcut Key: None
      • Note: The Working Directory: and Shortcut Key: are the same for all the PC Access for Windows icons.
  6. Click the OK button to close the Program Item Properties dialog and create your PC Access for Windows icon.
  7. Create the remaining icons by repeating the above steps while your PC Access for Windows group window remains open. Fill out the Program Item Properties dialog for each icon as follows:
    • Slide Show:
      • Description: Slide Show
      • Command Line: C:\PCAWIN\SLIDESHO.EXE
    • Backup/UnInstall:
      • Description: Backup/UnInstall
      • Command Line: C:\PCAWIN\LAUNCH.EXE UNINSTALL
    • PC Access Help:
      • Description: PC Access Help
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\PCAWRG.HLP
    • Troubleshooting Guide:
      • Description: Troubleshooting Guide
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE -n249 C:\PCAWIN\PCAWRG.HLP
    • Tips for New Users:
      • Description: Tips for New Users
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE -n877 C:\PCAWIN\PCAWRG.HLP
    • Additional Help Files: if you received additional help files with your copy of PC Access for Windows, you may add icons for them. For example, if your MLS is a VISTAinfo Master System, you may have received the file: MASTER.HLP. If so, you may create the following icon:
      • Description: Master System Help
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\MASTER.HLP
    • If your MLS is a VISTAinfo Maestro System, you may have received the file: MAESTRO.HLP. If so, you may create the following icon:
      • Description: Maestro System Help
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\MAESTRO.HLP
    • If your MLS is the West Penn Multi-List System, you should have received the files: WPML.HLP and WPML_SL.EXE. If so, you may create the following two icons:
      • Description: WPML Help
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\WPML.HLP
      • Description: SL Movie
      • Command Line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\WPML_SL.EXE

The above method is the "manual" method for creating your PC Access for Windows icons. Advanced users may also create icons quickly by dragging a file name from the Windows File Manager onto the PC Access for Windows group window. This works for all the icons that do not contain extra Command Line: parameters.

Creating PC Access icons in Windows 95 and/or Windows 98

Windows 95 and Windows 98 are more advanced operating systems than Windows 3.1x. Accordingly, there are several ways to create a PC Access for Windows folder and place icons in it. The following method works, but you may prefer another method.
  1. To be on the safe side, close all your Windows applications.
  2. Right-click the Start button on the Taskbar, and select the Open menu item.
  3. Double-click the Programs folder.
  4. If you already have a PC Access for Windows folder, open it by double-clicking it. Otherwise, create a PC Access for Windows folder by these steps:
    1. Click the File menu item, and select New.
    2. Click Folder.
    3. Type this name for your new folder: PC Access for Windows
    4. Open your PC Access for Windows folder by double-clicking it.
  5. Click the File menu item on the PC Access for Windows folder. Select New and then Shortcut.
  6. For the Command line: type or Browse to this file name:
    • C:\PCAWIN\Launch.exe
      • Note: If you installed PC Access for Windows on a different drive or in a different directory, modify the Command line: accordingly. The safest method is to find your copy of the PC Access Launch.exe program by browsing to it.
  7. Click the Next> button to reach the next dialog where you select a name for the shortcut. Type this name:
    • PC Access for Windows
  8. Click the Finish button. You have now created a shortcut (icon) to run PC Access for Windows.
  9. Create the remaining shortcuts by repeating the above steps while your PC Access for Windows folder remains open. Fill out the Command line: and name fields for each shortcut as follows:
    • Slide Show:
      • Command line: C:\PCAWIN\Slidesho.exe
      • name: Slide Show
    • Backup/UnInstall:
      • Command line:
        C:\PCAWIN\Launch.exe UNINSTALL
      • name: Backup/UnInstall
    • PC Access Help:
      • Command line:
        C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\PCAWRG.HLP
      • name: PC Access Help
    • Troubleshooting Guide:
      • Command line:
        C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINHELP.EXE -n249 C:\PCAWIN\PCAWRG.HLP
      • name: Troubleshooting Guide
    • Tips for New Users:
      • Command line:
        C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINHELP.EXE -n877 C:\PCAWIN\PCAWRG.HLP
      • name: Tips for New Users
    • Additional Help Files: if you received additional help files with your copy of PC Access for Windows, you may add shortcuts for them. For example, if your MLS is a VISTAinfo Master System, you may have received the file: MASTER.HLP. If so, you may create the following shortcut:
      • Command line:
        C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\MASTER.HLP
      • name: Master System Help
    • If your MLS is a VISTAinfo Maestro System, you may have received the file: MAESTRO.HLP. If so, you may create the following shortcut:
      • Command line:
        C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\MAESTRO.HLP
      • name: Maestro System Help
    • If your MLS is the West Penn Multi-List System, you should have received the files: WPML.HLP and WPML_SL.EXE. If so, you may create the following two shortcuts:
      • Command line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\WPML.HLP
      • name: WPML Help
      • Command line: WINHELP.EXE C:\PCAWIN\WPML_SL.EXE
      • name: SL Movie
