Quick Contents

[Introduction] [SMTP Server Name in Netscape] [SMTP Server Name in Internet Explorer] [Related Information]

Introduction

Some of MFM's software products, like Pocket Full of Listings and Fax Everywhere Fax Client use your outgoing SMTP mail server. For example, if you want to use Fax Everywhere Fax Client to send faxes via e-mail, you need to provide Fax Everywhere Fax Client with the name of your SMTP mail server.

If you use Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can use the instructions on this page to help you find your SMTP mail server.

SMTP Mail Server Name in Netscape

You can use the instructions below to find your SMTP mail server name in Netscape Communicator 4.7x. If you are using a different version of Netscape, some of the window and button names may be different.
  1. Select Edit | Preferences....
  2. On the Preferences window, in the Category: list, click the [+] symbol to the right of the Mail & Newsgroups entry to expand the topics below it.
  3. Select the Mail Servers entry under Mail & Newsgroups.
  4. On the right half of the window, look for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: field. The value you see in the field is what you need.
  5. Click the Cancel button to close the Preferences window without changing your Netscape setup.

SMTP Mail Server Name in Internet Explorer

You can use the instructions below to help you find your SMTP mail server name using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. If you are using a different version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, some of the window and button names may be different.
  1. Select Tools | Internet Options....
  2. On the Internet Options window, select the Programs tab.
  3. In the Internet programs group, the E-mail field should list the name of the program you use to send e-mail.
  4. Refer to the printed manual or online help for your e-mail program to see where it stores the name of your outgoing SMTP mail server. Look up the name, and then exit your e-mail program's setup by clicking the Cancel button so you do not change anything.
If you cannot determine your outgoing SMTP mail server by checking the setup in your e-mail program, you will have to contact your ISP and ask.
