Compaq Presario and Packard Bell Re-boot Problems
  • Symptom: Your computer spontaneously reboots while online to the MLS in PC Access for Windows. This problem has occurred on some Compaq Presario and Packard Bell computers.
  • Solution: MFM has developed a workaround which seems to solve the problem on these computers. Follow these instructions.
    1. Check to see if you are running Build 93 or later of PC Access for Windows.
    2. If you are not running Build 93 or later, you need to update your copy of PC Access for Windows.
      • If you have access to the World Wide Web, you can download an update from:
      • You may be able to download an update from your MLS. (See the topic Downloading an Update to PC Access from Your MLS in the PC Access for Windows Reference Guide. This topic is also available in the PC Access Help under the Standard Procedures heading on the Contents page.) If you subscribe to an MLS in the following list, you can download an update from it:
        • Multiple Listing Service of Greater Cincinnati, Inc.
    3. Once you are running Build 93 or later, click the Setup Menu button on the PC Access for Windows Main Menu window.
    4. On the Setup Assistant window, click the Advanced button. This opens the Advanced Setup Menu window.
    5. On the Advanced Setup Menu window, click the Modem button.
    6. On the Modem Setup window, click the More>> button.
    7. Check the Disable Comm Events box. Click the OK button.
    8. Click the Close button on the Advanced Setup Menu window.
    9. Try calling your MLS. Your computer should no longer reboot while online to the MLS. If it does, you will need to call your technical support representative again.
