PC Access 4.30 and Windows 2000

Quick Contents

[Introduction] [Modem Wizard] [User Authorization Manager] [Related Information]

Introduction

PC Access for Windows 4.30 is compatible with Windows 2000. However, MFM found two functions in PC Access 4.30 that do not work correctly in Windows 2000. These functions are:
  • The Modem Wizard
  • The User Authorization Manager
To work around the problem with the Modem Wizard, see: Modem Wizard.
  • Note: MFM also discovered that the Modem Wizard is not compatible with Windows XP.
For information and the solution to the problem with the User Authorization Manager, see: User Authorization Manager.
  • Note: PC Access 4.30.158 and later will run on Windows 2000. Earlier versions of PC Access may run on Windows 2000. However, MFM does not guarantee it.

Modem Wizard

The Modem Wizard may not detect the computer's modem in Windows 2000. However, this will not prevent your modem from dialing into your MLS. You can manually set up your modem in PC Access. Use the instructions below to manually set up your modem in PC Access.
  1. From the PC Access Main Menu, select Setup Menu | Advanced | Modem.
  2. From the Modem Setup window, click the Pick button.
  3. From the Modem Selection window, select your modem from the list of modems.
    • Note: If your modem is not on the list, select the Generic option that matches your modem.
  4. In the Port dialog box, select your modem's Com Port. If you do not what Com Port your modem uses, select COM1 and click Test. If PC Access responds with an error, try another Com Port. Continue trying Com Ports until PC Access responds with Modem Tests OK.
  5. After you configure your modem, click OK and close the Modem Setup window and the Advanced Setup window.
After you configure your modem, you can use PC Access to connect to your MLS.

User Authorization Manager

If you are running Windows 2000 and you are installing the PC Access 4.30 Upgrade version, the PC Access User Authorization Manager will not recognize your original Disk 1. This prevents you from completing the upgrade process. MFM has an updated version of the User Authorization Manager that corrects this problem.

For complete instructions on downloading and installing the new User Authorization Manager, see: Installing the PC Access 4.30 Upgrade in Windows 2000.
