[How to Install PC Access from the Hard Disk]
[Run ScanDisk]
If you have difficulty installing PC Access for Windows from your factory original
PC Access diskettes, follow the instructions below to
install PC Access from your hard disk.
If you suspect that a one or more of your factory original PC Access diskette(s)
has a virus or bad sector, you can
Download Replacement Disk(s).
- Click Start | Programs | MS-DOS Prompt.
- At the MS-DOS Prompt window, type the following commands:
CD \
MD C:\PCATEMP
CD \PCATEMP
- Insert your
PC Access disk 1 in your diskette drive. Type the following commands:
XCOPY A:\*.* C:\PCATEMP
This copies the contents of disk 1 to the PCATEMP
directory on your hard disk.
Note: If any errors occur while you are copying the files to the
PCATEMP directory, try typing the command
in step 3 again. If the errors continue, run scandisk on the disk.
- Insert your PC Access disk 2 in your diskette drive and type the command in step 3.
Follow this procedure for all of your PC Access disks. You will have 4 or 5
disks depending on your version of PC Access.
- When you finish copying disks to the
PCATEMP
directory on your hard disk, type:
EXIT
to close the MS-DOS Prompt window and return to Windows.
- To install PC Access from the
PCATEMP
directory on your hard disk, click Start | Run.
- In the Run window, next to Open: type the following
command:
C:\PCATEMP\SETUP.EXE
- Follow the instructions on your screen to install PC Access.
SETUP.EXE program installs PC Access, you will need to
install your User Authorization.
- On the Installing PC Access User Authorization window, make sure
that
A:\ appears below the
Insert Disk #1 in: field.
- Insert
PC Access disk 1 in your diskette drive, click OK.
Follow the instructions on your screen to Install your User Authorization.
If you received error(s) while copying your PC Access disk to your hard disk,
you should run ScanDisk on the disk that caused the error(s).
- Insert the PC Access disk in the diskette drive.
- Click Start | Programs | Accessories
| System Tools | ScanDisk.
- Select the following options:
Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors:
Type of Test:
- Click Start.
ScanDisk will check the PC Access disk for error(s).
Note: If you run ScanDisk on
Disk 1, it will report 512 bytes
found in bad sectors on Disk 1. These sectors are where Disk 1 stores
the User Authorization. They appear to be "bad" to ScanDisk
but this is how the User Authorization works.
If ScanDisk reports more than 512 bytes in bad sectors on Disk 1,
you will need to exchange your PC Access
disks.
If ScanDisk reports an error(s) on the PC Access disk,
follow this procedure to create or obtain a replacement disk:
-
If you are running PC Access version
4.20.124,
4.30.147 or
4.30.151, and your defective
diskette is Disk 2, 3, 4, or 5 (that is, any Disk other than
Disk 1),
you can
download a replacement file that lets you generate a replacement
disk.
- If you are running a different version of PC Access,
or your defective disk is Disk 1, you will have to return your diskettes to the
place where you purchased PC Access in exchange for replacement disks.
