Installing the PC Access 4.30 Upgrade in Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Quick Contents

[Introduction] [Download User Auth Manager Version 1.46] [Related Information]

Introduction

If you use Windows 2000 or Windows XP and you are installing the PC Access 4.30.154 or earlier Upgrade version, PC Access may be unable to install your User Authorization.

When Microsoft released Windows 2000 and Windows XP they changed the underlying Windows file handling routines. This change prevents the User Authorization Manager version 1.45 and earlier from recognizing your original PC Access Disk 1.

The problem occurs after you enter the PC Access Upgrade registration code. The User Authorization Manager will prompt you to insert your original PC Access Disk 1. After you insert Disk 1 and click OK, the User Authorization Manager will continually prompt you to insert your original PC Access Disk 1.

To correct this problem, you need to Download User Authorization Manager Version 1.46.

Download User Auth Manager Version 1.46

If you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP and installing the PC Access 4.30.154 or earlier Upgrade version, you need to download and install the User Authorization Manager version 1.46 before you can complete the upgrade process. Follow the instructions below to download the User Authorization Manager version 1.46.
  1. Download and save the WinZip self-extracting file: uam146.exe to a directory on your hard disk, for example C:\DOWNLOAD. The uam146.exe file size is 191kb.
  2. After you have downloaded uam146.exe, click Start | Programs | Windows Explorer.
  3. Go to the C:\DOWNLOAD folder (or the folder where you saved the uam146.exe file). Double-click on uam146.exe.
  4. A WinZip self-extractor window will appear defaulting to the C:\PCAWIN executable directory.
  5. If you accepted the defaults when you installed PC Access for Windows, your executable directory is C:\PCAWIN. (If you installed PC Access to a different directory, substitute that directory in the Unzip to folder field).
  6. Click Unzip to unzip the uam146.exe files to your PC Access executable directory.
  7. A WinZip Self-Extractor window will display this message: "1 file unzipped successfully". Click OK to close this window. Click Close to exit WinZip.
  8. Run PC Access to continue the PC Access 4.30 Upgrade process.
