Upgrading from 4.20 to 4.30

  1. Exit PC Access on all of your workstations. You cannot run PC Access on any of your workstations during the upgrade.
  2. Restart Windows on the workstation(s) that uses PC Access.
    • Note: you need to restart Windows on your workstations to break the Windows file locks to the server. If you do not restart a workstation that ran PC Access, you may be unable to uninstall your user authorization and complete the upgrade process.
  3. On one of your workstations, open an MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt window:
    • Windows 95/98: click Start | Programs | MS-DOS Prompt
    • Windows NT 4.0: click Start | Programs | Command Prompt
    • Windows ME: click Start | Programs | Accessories | MS-DOS Prompt
    • Windows 2000: click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
    • Windows XP: click Start | Programs or All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
  4. Type the following commands into the MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt window. These commands will remove the PC Access 4.20 user authorization and license file.
          X:
          CD \PCAWIN
          DEL PCAWIN.LIC
DEL PCAWIN.LI! (include exclamation mark. This file may not exist)
          ATTRIB -S -H PCAW410.*
          DEL PCAW410.*

Substitute drive X: for the actual drive letter of the server you installed PC Access to.
  5. Type the following commands into the MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt window. These commands will back up your PC Access 4.20 Agent and Phone Book files.
        COPY PCAWIN.AGT PCAWIN.AG2
        COPY PCAWIN.LIC PCAWIN.LI2

  6. After you remove the 4.20 user authorization files and back up your Agent and Phone Book files, you can install PC Access 4.30.158. For installation and setup instructions, see: How to Install the PC Access 4.30.158 Network Version.
