How to Install the PC Access® 4.30.158 Network Version

Quick Contents

[Introduction] [Installing the 4.30.158 Network Version] [Related Information]

Introduction

These instructions will guide you through installing the PC Access® for Windows 4.30.158 Network Version.

You can install PC Access to the server or dedicated workstation from any workstation. The installation program places the PC Access 4.30 program on a shared network drive. You cannot install PC Access from the server itself; you must install it from one of the workstations.

Do not attempt to install PC Access to a local (i.e., non-network drive). The installation program will not prevent you from installing PC Access to a local drive. Please be careful and install PC Access to a network drive. The network drive/directory you select must be accessible from all of the workstations you intend to install PC Access to. To simplify maintenance down the road, try to map the same drive letter to the server drive on each workstation.

You must have at least 20 MB of free space on your server's hard drive to install PC Access. If you plan to store data files from your MLS sessions you will need more disk space. All workstations that need access to PC Access must have Read, Write, Execute, Create Directory, Rename, and Delete file permissions for the PC Access executable directory and all of its sub-directories.

If you have any trouble installing the PC Access 4.30.158 Network version, you can report these problems to MFM Technical Support via e-mail at support@mfm.com; or you can complete the PC Access for Windows Problem Report Form.

  3. On the Choose Destination Location window select a destination directory. When you click Next, you will install the PC Access for Windows 4.30 Network version files to the destination directory.
    • Notes: you should install the PC Access 4.30 Network version to a mapped logical drive on your server or on a dedicated workstation. If you install PC Access to a dedicated workstation, you cannot run the PC Access from the dedicated workstation.
    • MFM does not support installing the PC Access 4.30 Network version to a Citrix server.
  4. Follow the instructions on your screen to install PC Access.
  5. When you finish installing PC Access to your server or dedicated workstation, you need to install PC Access on each workstation you want to access the MLS via PC Access.
  6. You can use the workstation setup program to install PC Access to each workstation. From a workstation, go to the PC Access executable directory on your server or dedicated workstation. For example, X:\PCAWIN. The PC Access executable directory is the directory where you installed PC Access.
  7. Run the workstation setup program from your server or dedicated workstation: X:\PCAWIN\WORKSTA\SETUP.EXE. The workstation installation takes less time to complete than the server installation. The workstation setup does not require you to insert the PC Access for Windows disks.
  8. On the Welcome window, click Next. Also click Next on the Information.
  9. On the Select Program Folder window, click Next to use the PC Access for Windows program folder name.
  10. On the Setup Complete window, click Finish to complete the installation.
  11. When you finish installing PC Access to a workstation, Setup will install the User Authorization. At the Installing PC Access User Authorization window, insert your PC Access Disk 1 into the diskette drive. Click OK to continue. The User Authorization Manager (UAM) will install several files. Next it will display a message telling you that it is going to install the User Authorization. It may ask you to insert Disk 1 again. Click OK to continue. After the UAM scans Disk 1 it will tell you how may install counts you have on the disk. Click Yes to finish installing the User Authorization to the network drive.
  12. Before you can access your MLS, you need to set up PC Access. Click Start | Programs | PC Access for Windows. Complete the fields on the Register PC Access window.
  13. From the PC Access Main Menu window, click Setup Menu | Advanced. Complete the advanced setup to set up PC Access on your network.
  14. When you finish, remove Disk 1. You will not need the remaining disks or Disk 1 for the rest of the workstation installations.
  15. To install PC Access on the remaining workstations on your network, run X:\PCAWIN\WORKSTA\SETUP.EXE on each workstation. You will not need to run the User Authorization Manager or set up PC Access on each workstation.
