Unable to Load Font Library MFM.FON

PC Access and the
Slide Show Accessory need to load a special font file:
MFM.FON. The PC Access
SETUP.EXE program puts a copy of this file in your PC Access
executable directory.
However, sometimes another program on your computer or a problem such as a power
failure can corupt this file, or PC Access may be unable to load fonts from it.
To correct the "Unable to Load Font Library MFM.FON" error, you need to
locate the MFM.FON file.
Follow the instructions below to locate the MFM.FON
file on your hard drive.
- Windows 95, 98, and NT: Click Start | Programs |
MS-DOS Prompt.
Windows 3.1x: Click File
| Exit Windows.
- In the MS-DOS Prompt window type the following command:
DIR \MFM.FON /S
MFM.FON file exists on
your hard drive, write down the name of the directory that contains the
MFM.FON file.
Type:
EXIT
to close the MS-DOS Prompt window and return to Windows.
MFM.FON file is in your PC Access
executable directory you may have too many fonts loaded in Windows.
If the MFM.FON file is on
your hard drive, but not in the PC Access executable directory, move the MFM.FON file
to your PC Access executable directory.
If the MFM.FON file is not on your
hard drive, you need to download the MFM.FON file from MFM.
Follow the instructions below if the MFM.FON
is on your hard drive, but it is not in your PC Access
executable directory.
- Windows 95,98 and NT: Click Start | Programs |
MS-DOS Prompt.
Windows 3.1x: Click File
| Exit Windows.
- In the MS-DOS Prompt window you will type a command similar to this:
MOVE C:\WINDOWS\MFM.FON C:\PCAWIN\MFM.FON
C:\WINDOWS
directory. If you found MFM.FON
in a different directory, substitute the name of that directory
for C:\WINDOWS in the above command.
Your PC Access executable directory is C:\PCAWIN
Type:
EXIT
to close the MS-DOS Prompt window and return to Windows.
MFM.FON file is not
on your hard drive, you can download a new copy from MFM.
You should download a copy of the MFM.FON file if you
determined that it is not on your hard drive,
or if you believe the MFM.FON file is corrupt.
You can download
a new copy of the MFM.FON file
from MFM. The URL is:
http://support.mfm.com/files/windows/pcaccess/mfm.fon
- Note: to download the file, Netscape users must right-click
on the above URL. Next, select Save Link As.
After you have downloaded the MFM.FON file,
move it to your PC Access
executable directory.
- Windows 95, 98, and NT: Click Start | Programs |
MS-DOS Prompt.
Windows 3.1x : Click File
| Exit Windows.
- In the MS-DOS Prompt window type the following command:
MOVE C:\TEMP\MFM.FON C:\PCAWIN\MFM.FON
- Note: The above command assumes that:
- You downloaded the
MFM.FON
file to your C:\TEMP
directory. If you found downloaded the MFM.FON
file to a different directory on your hard drive,
substitute C:\TEMP with the name of that directory.
Your PC Access
executable directory is C:\PCAWIN
Type:
EXIT
to close the MS-DOS Prompt window and return to Windows.
If the MFM.FON file
is in your PC Access
executable directory and you get the "Unable to Load Font
Library" error you may have too many fonts loaded in Windows. Windows can load
a maximum of between 500 and 1000 fonts. You may have another application
that has loaded a large number of fonts.
Follow the instructions below to check the number of fonts in Windows.
- Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.
- Double-click the Fonts icon.
- The Status Bar at the bottom of the Fonts window
will show you the number of fonts you have loaded in Windows. For example:
159 font(s).
If you do not see the Status Bar at the bottom of the Fonts window,
click View | Status Bar. This will display the
Status Bar.
If you have too many fonts loaded in Windows, try moving some of the fonts from the font
folder to a temporary
directory on your hard drive. After you have moved some of the fonts to a temporary directory,
re-start Windows and run PC Access.
If you do not have too many fonts loaded in Windows, run Scandisk.
MFM has seen instances where the MFM.FON file became corrupted
and
ScanDisk could detect this problem with a thorough
scan.
You may suspect a corrupted MFM.FON file
if all of the following are true:
MFM.FON file is present in your
PC Access
executable directory.
You do not have too may fonts loaded in Windows.
PC Access is unable to load MFM.FON
anyway.
- Click Start | Programs | Accessories
| System Tools | ScanDisk.
- Select the following options:
Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors:
Type of Test:
- Click Start.
ScanDisk will check drive
C:.
If
ScanDisk reports errors while checking your hard drive, you will need
to download a new copy of the MFM.FON
file.
