Introduction

MFM creates the PC Access for Windows help file (PCAWRG.HLP) with Doc-To-Help.

MFM distributes the PC Access for Windows Reference Guide with PC Access as a Windows Help file (PCAWRG.HLP). The standard version of PCAWRG.HLP contains an extra feature most customers find helpful: the Doc-To-Help Navigator. The Navigator is a collapsible outline window showing the complete table of contents for PCAWRG.HLP.

The Navigator requires the Windows Help program (WINHELP.EXE) to load some extra DLL files: D2HLNK16.DLL and D2HTOOLS.DLL. The PC Access for Windows SETUP.EXE program copies these DLL files to your Windows system directory when you install PC Access.

A very small number of PC Access users report that their computers are not compatible with these extra DLL files. If you see the following error message when you click on the Help button in PC Access:

Error exists in the Help File (1024)

You need to download a new version of the PC Access help file.

Correcting Error 1024

To correct the 1024 error when you open the PC Access Help file, you need to download a version of the help file that does not use Doc-To-Help. Follow the instructions below to download the help file.
  1. Click Start | Programs | MS-DOS Prompt.
  2. In the MS-DOS Prompt window, type the follow commands:
          CD \PCAWIN
          REN PCAWRG.HLP PCAWRG1.HLP
          EXIT
          
    After you type EXIT you will return to Windows.
  3. Click on the URL below to download the PC Access Reference Guide.
  4. When you finish downloading pcawrg_no_d2h.zip, click Start | Programs | Windows Explorer.
  5. Double-click on the TEMP folder.
    • Note: If you downloaded pcawrg_no_d2h.zip to a folder other than TEMP, substitute the name of that folder for TEMP in the instruction above.
  6. Double-click pcawrg_no_d2h.zip. This will open WinZip.
  7. On the WinZip Wizard - Welcome window click Next.
  8. On the WinZip Wizard - Welcome, click Select different folder.
  9. On the Select Folder window double-click on the drive you installed PC Access to (usually [C:]), next, double-click on your PC Access executable directory (usually PCAWIN), click OK.
  10. On the WinZip Wizard - Unzip window, click Unzip Now. This will unzip the contents of pcawrg_no_d2h.zip to your PC Access executable directory.
    • When WinZip is finished unzipping pcawrg_no_d2h.zip, your PC Access folder will open.
  11. Click on pcawrg.hlp. This should open the PC Access Help File.
  12. Click File | Close. This will close the PC Access Help File. Close any other windows you may have open and return to your Windows Desktop.
  13. Click Start | Programs | PC Access for Windows | PC Access Reference Guide.
