GPF in Module PCAWIN.EXE at 0054:XXXX

Quick Contents

[Introduction] [Correcting the GPF] [Related Information]

Introduction

PC Access® for Windows stores your settings from the MLS Setup and Phone Book Setup windows in the PC Access Phone Book file (PCAWIN.PBK). You can find the PCAWIN.PBK file in your PC Access executable directory, by default your PC Access executable directory is: (C:\PCAWIN).

If PC Access for Windows displays the following error messages:

PCAWIN caused a General Protection Fault in Module PCAWIN.EXE at 0054:XXXX
you or another program on your computer corrupted the PCAWIN.PBK file.

To correct the General Protection Fault (GPF), see: Correcting the GPF.

Correcting the GPF

  • Note: in the following instructions, you will delete the PCAWIN.PBK file. This file stores your settings from the MLS Setup and Phone Book Setup windows. You may want to write down the settings from these windows before you follow these instructions.

  3. Delete the PCAWIN.PBK file in the PCAWIN folder.
    • Note: if you do not see the PCAWIN.PBK file in your PCAWIN folder, follow these instructions:
      • Windows 98/98SE: in Windows Explorer click View | Folder Options. From the Folder Options window, click the View tab. In the Advanced Settings group uncheck: [ ] Hide extensions for known file types.
      • Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP: in Windows Explorer click Tools | Folder Options. From the Folder Options window, click the View tab. In the Advanced Settings group uncheck: [ ] Hide extensions for known file types.

  6. Click Call MLS to connect to your MLS.
  • Note: After you connect to your MLS, you may want to back up your PC Access configuration files (this includes the PCAWIN.PBK file). To back up your configuration files, click Start | Programs | PC Access for Windows | Back Up PCAWin Setup. In the future, if you experience any errors in the Phone Book file (such as this GPF error) you can restore the PCAWIN.PBK file from Disk 1.
