WOW32.DLL Application Error

Introduction

Windows 2000 or Windows XP may display the following error:
Application Error

      PCAWIN caused an access violation in WOW32.dll at OxOffc73eb.
      Click on Close to terminate the application
      Click to Ignore to continue, you should save your work in a new file.
when your mouse pointer hovers over the Minimize, Maximize, or Close buttons. You can find these buttons in the upper-right corner on any window in PC Access for Windows.
  • Note: Windows 2000 displays the WOW32.DLL application error when you use programs created with Borland development products. Since MFM used some of Borland's development products to create PC Access for Windows, Windows 2000 may display the WOW32.DLL application error.

Correcting the WOW32.DLL Application Error in Windows 2000

If Windows 2000 displays the WOW32.DLL application error when your mouse hovers over one of the following buttons:
  • Minimize
  • Maximize
  • Close
You can fix the application error in one of two ways:

Install Tweak UI

  1. Follow the instructions in the URL below to download and install Microsoft's Tweak UI 1.33 utility.
    • Note: MFM Technical Support does not provide support for Microsoft Tweak UI.
  2. After you download and install Microsoft's Tweak UI, click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Tweak UI.
  3. From the Tweak UI window, click on the General tab. Uncheck the Mouse hot tracking effects check box.
  4. Click Apply, then click and OK.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. This should correct the WOW32.DLL Application error.

Install Service Pack 3

Microsoft corrected the application error in the Windows 2000 Service Pack 3. You can download and install Service Pack 3 to correct this error:

If Windows XP displays the WOW32.DLL application error when your mouse hovers over one of the following buttons:
  • Minimize
  • Maximize
  • Close
You may need to restart Windows XP, then run PC Access for Windows again.

To prevent this error, you can download and install PowerToys for Windows XP from Microsoft's Web site. You can download PowerToys from this URL:

Follow the instructions in the above URL to install PowerToys. After you install PowerToys, follow these instructions to access Tweak UI:
  1. In Windows XP click Start | Programs | Powertoys for Windows XP | TweakUI for Windows XP.
  2. Click on General and unselect Enable mouse hot tracking effects.
  3. Click Apply | OK to close Tweak UI.
  4. Restart Windows XP.
  • Note: MFM found that if you install the Windows XP versions of the mouse and video drivers from the manufacturer's Web site, this eliminates the WOW32.DLL error; even if you have mouse hot tracking effects enabled.
