If you are running Windows XP, PC Access® may display this error:
Error #7 - User Auth Check Failed
when you attempt to install your User Authorization. PC Access displays this
error when there is an incompatibility between Windows XP and the User
Authorization Manager (UAM).
To correct this problem, you can run the User Authorization Manager
in one of Windows' compatibility modes. We recommend you use either the
Windows 98 / Windows ME or Windows 2000
comparability mode.
To get started, see: Correcting Error #7.
To correct Error #7 - User Auth Check Failed, you
can run the User Authorization Manager in one of Windows'
compatibility modes.
- In Windows XP click Start | Programs or All Programs |
Accessories | Windows Explorer.
- In Windows Explorer click on the PC Access executable
directory. If you installed PC Access into the default directory, the
executable directory is C:\PCAWIN.
- Find the PCAWINUA.EXE file in the C:\PCAWIN directory.
- Note: if you only see the file name prefix, i.e.
PCAWIN or PCAWINUA, Windows Explorer
is hiding the file extensions. For instructions on how to unhide
file extensions, see:
How to Unhide File Extensions for Known File Types in Windows.
If you click this link, your browser will display the How to page in a new
window.
- Right-click on the PCAWINUA.EXE file and click Properties.
- On the PCAWINUA.EXE Properties window click the
Compatibility tab. Click the
Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.
Next, from the drop-down list, select either Windows 98 / Windows Me
or Windows 2000.
- Click Apply | OK on the
PCAWINUA.EXE Properties window.
- Before the Compatibility Mode will take affect, restart
Windows XP. Each time you change the
Compatibility Mode, you must restart Windows XP.
If you do not restart Windows XP, the
Error #7 may continue to occur.
- In Windows XP, click Start | Programs or All Programs |
PC Access for Windows | User Auth Manager.
- On the User Authorization Manager window, click
Install. This will install your User Authorization to
your hard drive.
- If you have trouble with the above instructions, you may want to
manually install your User Authorization. For more information, see:
